Okay, here's a question about the standard. What does it say about
unsigned/signed mismatches in a comparison statement:
char a = 3;
unsigned char b = 255;
if (a<b)
Now what's the real answer here? If a is converted to unsigned, then b>a.
But, if b is converted to signed,then a>b. What's the correct coversion
(what is the compiler supposed to do?)

Hi everyone
this is the program given in answer book to K&R
====================================
#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
printf (" signed char = %d", -(char) ((unsigned char) ~0 >> 1));
printf (" signed char = %d", (char) ((unsigned char) ~0 >> 1));

Hi Everyone. Thanks for the help with the qudratic equation problem...I
didn't think about actually doing the math...whoops. Anyway... I'm
having some trouble getting the following program to work. I want to
output a bit pattern from base 10 input. All I get is a zero after the
input...I've looked over the code but can't see the problem...any ideas?
/* display the bit pattern corresponding to
a signed decimal integer */

hi
i have a problem with integer subtraction in C.
printf("%d", c < (a - b));
a is got from a #define and is 0x80000000 and b is got from input and
is also 0x80000000.
c is ffffffff (-1).
Now, this should print 1 (true) but it prints 0!

I am currently trying to port a small open source scientfic library written
in C++ to .Net. The code (including the VS solution) could be found at
http://www.vermorel.com/opensource/selfscaling.zip
My problem is that when I try to compile the library I got a list of linking
error messages. I am not a specialist of porting C++ code to .Net. Does
anyone has an idea on how to make this code compile in .Net ?
Thanks,
Joannes Vermorel

Hello!
My problem happens when I'm trying to write a string in DER. I'm
using the following code:
signed = SignedData.Sign(Signer, False,
CAPICOM.CAPICOM_ENCODING_TYPE.CAPICOM_ENCODE_BINARY)
in order to get a PKCS#7 in DER. The signed is defined as string.
The problem is that I don't know how I can write this string in a binary

I am posting two threads because I have two different problems, but both have the same background information.
Common Background Information:
I am trying to rebuild code for a working, commercially sold application with only partial build instructions. The previous maintainer of the code (a
mixture of C and C++) is no longer with the company, but when he built the code he used MSVC++, and though I am not certain of the version he was ...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
