Understanding the utilization of XML

Hi,

Can some one provide me with a summary and a URL which will do the trick
I.e. EXACTLY what is the utilization of XML and HOW does it help as
compared to how (whatever it does) it was done before XML was here.
Thanks---

XML is an open W3C standard than can be used to capture and contain data.

The problem XML was designed to solve is that of data sharing. It seems
that each one of the countless information systems in use today has a
different mechanism for storing and transmitting data. Because all the
mechanisms are different, a "customer record" (for example) from one system
is not recognized as a customer record on system #2. In other words, data
is not "portable" and cannot be shared among these systems. XML was
targeted at enabling better interchange of data between these disparate
systems.

From www.topxml.com/xml/LearnXML.asp :
Some of the goals set out for XML by the W3C:

a.. XML shall be straightforward ly usable over the Internet.
b.. XML shall support a wide variety of applications.
c.. It shall be easy to write programs which process XML documents.
d.. XML documents should be human-legible and reasonably clear.
e.. The design of XML shall be formal and concise.
f.. XML documents shall be easy to create.
Go to the bookstore and get a good intro to XML book, spend an hour reading,
and you will have a much better feel for it.

We have a SQL 7.0 Standard Server running on a Windows 2000 Server machine with 2 800mhz Pentium III with 2GB memory. Our front end is Access 97 and 2000 with most ADO connections for the scripts but some DAO for forms and reports. We recently "released" a new version of the "database" that caused a catastrophic event to start happening with our SQL server. Using PerfMon we monitored the CPU utilization on the server and noticed that...

I don't want to know what the CPU utilization is right now. I want to get the average utilization over the last, for example, hour. So I came up with a method where I would get a Process object representing the "Idle" process. I would figure out what percentage of time the idle process has been running since my function last was called. Then the average CPU utilization would be 100 - average idle percentage. I figure out the average idle...

This one has got me stumped. Is there a way to figure out the utilization of each processor in an MP system? (2P and above) Right now I use the NtQuerySystemInformation API to get busy and idle time of each processor in a system and this works most of the time except on 64-bit Windows 2003 server on some platforms. What makes me nervous is MS says it may drop support for this call in future OSes so I can't depend on it long term...

Hi All, I'm using the .NET performance counters to calculate the network utilization. But this value exceeds 100%. In most of the cases, it is very similar to the one shown in the task-manager. But when I try to measure the network utilization with a particular utility that sends large data, then the values that I get exceed 100%. Even in the task-manager it shows similar graph (graph goes up above the 100% line and disappears and then...

i want to find out the CPU Utilization per application in my DB. The problem is that we have OLTP and DSS transactions happening on the same server and we are not able to convince the client that the CPU utilization is going high because of the DSS queries. If somehow i could get the queries which are fired and the cpu utilization taken by these queries, then i would be able to convince them. I dont know which would be the best way to trap this,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
