Empty tags in XMLSpy

Hi

Can anyone help me create empty tags using a schema in XMLSpy please?

I have a definition for a complex element <book> which has children
<author>, <date> etc. but I am just using attributes in these eg
<author name="Smith"/>

I have my schema set up and when I start typing in the XML I can only
get the manditary elements to appear in the <book name=""></book> form
which is not what I want. I know it is more correct but I reading the
XML into Flash and it is a lot faster with attributes.

I have spent a morning trying to get XMLSpy to do this - any ideas?

I am new to XML as of last week so apologies for misuse of
terms/general stupidity

Thanks

From XML specification: The representation of an empty element is either a start-tag immediately followed by an end-tag, or an empty-element tag. (This means that <foo></foo> is equal to <foo/>) From XHTML specification:

I received a file from a business partner. I ran it through XercesJ and it choked on the following element: <wcb-case-number>0</wcb-case-number> To debug this issue, I loaded it into XMLSPY and hit validate...it passed. Here are the related type/element definitions: // Redefine built-in string type to limit range of characters, mostly // to eliminate undesirable white space (tab, cr, lf, etc.)

Hi all, I don't know whether this is the right group, let me know :-). I tried to open this XML file (with internal DTD) with XMLSpy 2005. I guess some of you also use this tool. http://dret.net/lectures/xml/a/4/wwww.xml I'm quite new to XML at all, so I wondered about the following. Maybe someone can tell me whether this is correct or it's an XMLSpy bug:

Hi. (this is somewhat similar to yesterday's thread about empty links) I noticed that Tidy issues warnings whenever it encounters empty tags, and strips those tags if cleanup was requested. This is okay in some cases (such as <tbody>), but problematic for other tags (such as <option>). Some tags (td, th, ...) do not produce warnings when they are empty.

Hello :-) I am learning XPath, and I am trying to get child nodes of a node whose names do *not* match a given string, e.g : <dummy> <example> <title>Example 1</title> <body>this is an example</body>

Hi there! A "special" project team in our department has decided to purchase XMLSpy. We standardize on VS2005 as our IDE and up to now everyone has used the XML parser in VS2005. Are there advantages to using XMLSpy over VS2005? Apparently there are "integration diagrams" that VS2005 does not have natively. Does someone have a link or a MVP have some comparison I could have? Warmly Adrian

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
