numerical as the first character in TagNames

IE throws error at <1060> for this XML file
------------------------------------------
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<root>
<1060>
<UUID>
1bac9070-bf3b-404f-b7ca-ada24fc09eb3
</UUID>
</1060>
</root>
------------------------------------------
Workaround is prefixing alphabet to <1060>.
Ex: <L1060> makes it work.
Why this behavior?
Is this illigal to have numerical as the first character in TagNames?

Thanks
Ramesh

Yes. Look at the XML specification:
Element names must match the 'Name' prdocution
(<http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#NT-Name>).

[5] Name ::= (Letter | '_' | ':') (NameChar)*

I have been using Python for quite some time now and I love it. I use it mainly for explorative computing and numerical prototyping, ie testing and trying out different kinds of algorithms and computational schemes. The use of Python as my first-choice language has made me extremely productive. Now, I have always believed that Python is a poor performer in terms of numerical speed. My experience, however, is that the efficient use of...

I recently read the claim somewhere that numerical entities (such as —) have a speed advantage over the equivalent named entities (such as —) because the numerical entity requires just a single byte to be downloaded to the browser, while the named entity requires one byte for each letter. (So in this case, it would presumably be one byte vs. seven bytes.) I found this claim a little surprising -- I would have thought *each* numeral...

I have a table in a database that contains a text field. The text field contains identifiers that consist of 7 alphanumeric characters, such as GORKY, 99SST, and PT10A. I am trying to run a query that will only display those identifiers that have no numerical characters, so that, from the examples above, only GORKY will show. I apologize is this is an often-repeted request. I searched Google and Google Groups, but couldn't seem to...

I'm trying to build a function that reads each character in a string and converts it to an ASCII numerical value. So far, so good. However, I'm running into problems when dealing with quotation marks. Using ASC(""") dosen't work, neither does ASC('"') or just ASC("). Is there any other way to handle this? Is this the only character I'll have this problem with, so should I just error trap it? Thanks!

Folks, I need to try and make sure that a given string is a valid numerical value (not just int, or int32 - it could be float, decimal, what have you). VB.NET has a neat "IsNumeric" function - too bad C# doesn't have anything similar. Or does it?? I was thinking about trying to convert the string to Int32, but as I mentioned - that alone won't be good enough, and I really don't want to attempt a dozen conversions to find out - nor do...

Hi, I've made a program from numerical recipes. Looks like I'm not allowed to distribute the source code from numerical recipes but it shouldn't even be necessary to do that. My problem is that I'm not very experienced with pointers, pointers to pointers and the like and I got 4 compiler warnings + I don't completely understand how to build this "compact matrix" (see later).

Hi.. I wanted the C source code in machine readable format for the book "Numerical Recipes in C". I got hold of the pdf version of the book somehow. Does anyone have the complete C code of the book?. If yes,..can you please mail me the code or somehow share it with me?. With Regards, Abhishek S

Hi all, I am trying to find the numerical value of a string that stores a two digit number. I have found the numerical value of a char as: char character; cin >> character; int number = character - 48; // Computing the numberical value of character entered cout << "The number you entered is: " << number << endl << endl; How do I do the same and find the numerical value of a string storing 2 digits? I know a way to do this using...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
