After the last six days trying to download VS2005 Professional it seems
there may be a problem with my instance of the File Transfer Manager (FTM)
or somewhere in the network in between. I can't even download the measely
1.5MB GIF animator which is in the Tools folder at subscriber downloads. The
FTM keeps recycling with retries until it finally times out regardless of
the configuration settings.
I've been talking with MSDN Customer...

I have been trying to port my existing VS2003 code to VS2005 Beta 2 (Ver
8.0.50712.6 lab23df .050712-0600), the VS2005 IDE crashes without warning.
My question is VS2005 beta 2, stable enough for development or am I having
problems because of my installation.?

Hello people,
We have a large application (about 5000 source files) consisting of multiple executables, DLLs and COM components written in C++.
We develop and build it in Visual Studio 2003.
I'm in charge of evaluating whether we want to migrate it to VS2005 (the previous migration from 6.0 to 7.1 was a pain).
So far, things do not look good.
I installed VS2005 on a VM, copied the sources over and tried to build the solution.

I would like some suggestions about a particular developer's
environment problem I'm having.
I have a developer who has VS2003 installed on his "primary" machine.
(A descision has been made by the development group not to load VS2003
and VS2005 concurrently on a machine. I personally have tried this and
found no ill effects. Has anybody had any problems with this
scenario?) This developer has temporarily inherited a machine with...

I've been working on an Addin for Outlook in C#. It hasn't been long now,
just a couple of days.
Suddenly though, running my project in Debug launches Outlook as specified,
but no breakpoints are hit in my source code. The Addin isn't being loaded.
If I create a new Addin program from scratch, e.g. AddIn1, it loads up fine
from Outlook. I archived my existing code, cleared out the registry and
recreated a brand new Addin project with...

OK, I'll admit it up front - I just don't get it.
Here's our previous VS2003 development model. Developers develop the WS
solution on their own workstations, using their own IIS web servers mapped
to the local devleopment folder. Project compiles to a subfolder .\bin. To
deploy, the asmx page and bin subfolder are copied to the production server.
So now I upgrade to VS2005. OK, so except for the name, everything is
changed. No more...

I'm using VS2005. I have a solution consisting of twelve projects. All
projects are console/service apps except for one which is a WinForms app.
There are no web projects. I'd say that I'm at around 125k-150k lines of
code in total.
My development machine has 2gigs of physical RAM, a hyperthreaded CPU
running at 3.6ghz, and plenty of harddrive space on a recently defragged
drive. The only installed apps are VS2005 and SQL Server 2005....

We recently moved our large codebase over from VS7 to 8 and found that
we now get access violations in atexit calls at shutdown when
debugging the application in VS2005.
This occurs in static members / singletons (especially meyer type
singletons) which use locally declared static variables. These
variables are normally cleaned up automatically at shutdown of the
application by registering with the atexit. I break point the
destructor on...

I have vs2005 installed on the System disk and vs2008 installed on a
different disk.
I want to remove VS2005. I read one time about some problem with
uninstalling vs2005 after vs2008 is installed but can't find the site now.
Is there a problem?
Would reinstalling vs2008 fix any problem that may occur because of
uninstalling vs2005.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
