I heard there was an Application Block that makes it extremely easy to
encrypt and decrypt, but I'm not able to find such a thing.
The closest I found was the Configuration Management Application Block, and
I can't figure out how it works for encryption.
Any information will be most helpful.
Thanks,
J

I have an ASP.NET app that calls into some VB.NET components. It passes in
the current application's cache (HttpContext.Current.Cache).
These VB.NET components also get called by a non-ASP.NET application (in
this case a VB.NET windows service). I'd like to create something like the
cache in this service to hold application-wide information (like database
connection strings) and then pass that into the components.
As a test, I tried...

I have started to use the new Enterprise Library (Jan 06) and have set up a
skeleton project using the DAAB. This all seems to work fine apart from when
I come to secure the app.config file via encryption.
I have encrypted the connectionsettings block in the config file but
obviously when I come to deploy the solution to other PC's, it cannot read
the block as it doesn't have the keys to decrypt.
I understand that as far as ASP.NET...

I've written a simple program to do XOR encryption as my first foray
into understanding how encryption works. The code compiles fine, however
it segmentation faults on every run. using gdb to debug it let me
narrow the problem down to the Cipher function I think it faults at line
84 or 85. The program makes it's first read/cipher/write pass without
issue but the second pass kills it. Using gdb to print the variables
left showed me the...

Hi.
I've got a strange problem...
I've made a simple program to test encryption/decryption.
I use Rijndael encryption and here are the most important properties.
RijndaelManaged cipher = new RijndaelManaged();
cipher.KeySize = 256;
cipher.BlockSize = 256;

I’m trying to encrypt and decrypt a file in vb.net. I am using the
TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider encryption found in
System.Security.Cryptography. Below is the code for my Encrypt and Decrypt
functions.
While my functions read and write files the encryption/decryption is not
working properly. My test file has an original length of 66,048 bytes. My
encrypted file ends up with 66,056 bytes … 8 bytes more than my original.
When I...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
