Microsoft's "Dies Patchae" Break .NET/COM interoperabilit y.

Check out the Microsoft support groups post this weekend.

The weekend of "patches".

They seem to have broken COM/.net interop on W2K.

..Net apps calling any COM component are met with nasty, unresolvable
"security" errors that can't be fixed with dcomcfg or the .Net
configuration manager.

Pure .Net apps work just fine, of course...but there's a whole lot of hand
wringing going on...

Opps, this was a product of trying to install remote debugging.

The Component Services/My Computer security was set from Identify to
Anonymous.

Once set back, all the COM components started working.

Man, that was a hard one to trace back though...thank god for a great
little article on COM configuration:

I have an application I created called "JpegViewer.exe". It simply loads a Jpeg file and displays in on the screen. It works great, in my lab. When I am using it at a customer site, things change. Occasionally, it blows up with an Application Exception. It seems to only die at the customer site

I'm building a relatively simple client-server app. One of the functions of the client is to notify the server when it terminates, this all works fine. The problem comes in when the server is stopped before the client, in which case the client "hangs", waiting to talk to the server. This is how it works: Server: Starts listening on a tcp port, say 3000 (by registering a TcpServerChannel and invoking RegisterWellKnownServiceType). When...

I was doing update statements in SQL Server 2000. I have a table with over 16 million rows. It came from several hundred delimited text files, and two of the columns are file ID (int) and Line # (int) Structure is X12 (835). For those unfamiliar with that, each file has one to many BPR lines; each BPR line has zero to many CLP lines, each of those has zero to many

Hello (Sorry for asking this in a PHP ng, but I already asked in a MySQL forum, but got no definitive answer): I'm trying to install the authlib module that's required for the open-source iOutliner web-based outliner (http://ioutliner.com), but it fails halfway through when creating the tables: //Bad! /* SQL Error: Invalid default value for 'id' */

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
