passing form controls to subordinate objects

This might be best for the comp.objects group, but I have a feeling that
C# programmers encounter this often:

You have a nicely partitiioned program with well-organized creation of
objects, but now you need one of the objects to set a lot of values on
form controls. Normally, with a limited number of buttons/boxes/whatever,
I'd create a facade or panel that passed refs to the controls from the
form into the object. This gets less pretty as the number of controls
increases. It seems like a bad move to pass ar ref to the entire form.

Any elegant solutions? I care more about functionality that
object-oriented purity, but it would be nice to keep the design clean. <g>

Dear all, In my application I have a lot of hidden fields. I want to make them invisible for the users though for debugging reasons I want to make them visible. So I want to add these objects to an array-variable and pass this variable to a subroutine in which I make all stored objects in the array-variable invisible. Can somebody explain me how to declare the correct variables, how to pass these to a sub routine and how to make these...

Hi, In my application I get lots of different sorts of information from databases. As such, a lot of information is stored in DataSets and DataTable objects. Up until now, I have been passing around chunks of data in DataTables/DataSets, simply because that was the format that they were in when the data was taken from the database. Now, I know this maybe a pretty silly question with a standard "it depends" answer, but I'm going to...

I'm a rookie at C# and OO so please don't laugh! I have a form (fclsTaxCalculator) that contains a text box (tboxZipCode) containing a zip code. The user can enter a zip code in the text box and click a button to determine whether the zip code is unique. If the zip code is not unique, another form/dialog is displayed (fclsLookup) - lookup form/dialog. The zip code is passed to the lookup form/dialog by reference. I then load a...

Could someone please give me a link to somewhere which explains how to package web control (ActiveX) .dlls? I created an ActiveX-type .dll user control. Now this user control has within it another user control -- i.e., there are dependent .dlls. If I download the main control, it can't access the subordinate control. I've tried putting everything in the same directory and also in "bin" -- to no avail. Do I have to put stuff into a...

I'm starting a new project. A Personnel System. I have considered opening a single bound form to the main employee table. The user can scroll the records to any individual. I would like to have a tab control at the top of the form which would allow the user to select (PERSONAL), (TRAINING),(DISIPLINARY),and (SICKLEAVE) Tabs. Each Tab should open a FORM and display the relavant TABLE of records tied to the Employee being viewed in the...

Morning, My last question brought no end of fruit so i thought i would ask this: Right now, i pass object references into the constructor of forms i add to the panels in my application. Is there an easier way to access objects/controls in other panels without implicily passing the reference to them? Searching the internet, it seems not, but... Thanks in advance again!

Hello there I was wondering if anyone could help me, I am trying to pass a typed dataset to a dialoged child form by reference. I have binding sources sitting on the child form. So to refresh them I just set their datasource. I am guessing this is probably what is causing the problem. Is there a better way to do this? Anyway this all works happily and things show up when the record already exists but I have 2 problems ; 1) When I add...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
