VS2003 web app deployment project upsets root site

Hi,

I have an issues with my web app deployment project. The project actually
has an ASP.NET site and a web service site, which are both destined to be
virtual directories under a root website (by default the one on port 80).
When installed on a machine that has a default document for the root site of
xxxindex.html, this gets REPLACED by default.aspx and the application name
gets set to my application. I do not want the root site to be changed, but my
virtual directories should have the application name set, and the default
document should be set as I specified (which is NOT default.aspx). Does
anyone know why I am seeing these problems and is there anything I can do to
stop the root site being affected?

Thanks in advance

Hi, I have developed a ASP.NET app and made a web deployment project. I wish to add a custom action to change some of the files. In order to do this I need to know the location of my installed files. The only thing the user may change is the virtual directory and the port of the site my app is installed to. I know there's this property which relates to these values, but I'm not clear whether it's the virtual directory name, or the...

I just wanted to hear some ideas and what some have done on this. I'm having a problem deciding how to build or setup our application. This will be an application for our entire company of 700 employees and we have several different departments and groups. After talking with one developer we thought it would be a bad move to develop the whole application as one project since everytime you had to make a change to something you would have to...

I have an account from a commercial ISP and he set the sub directory "net" as a virtual directory to allow me to run ASP.NET pages (I use VSNET 2003 for development). I created one solution with a couple of aspx pages and used the project/copy project option to create a copy of my solution which I then uploaded to my "net" directory. Everything seems to run fine. Now, I created another project with several additional web pages. I want to...

Create two ASP.NET applications. Run them on the development machine to make sure they are error free. Publish the fist application to the root of a remote webspace. Call a page and see that it operates correctly. Publish the second application to the root of the same remote webspace. Permit it to overwrite existing files. Call a page and notice that it waits forever.

OK, I'll admit it up front - I just don't get it. Here's our previous VS2003 development model. Developers develop the WS solution on their own workstations, using their own IIS web servers mapped to the local devleopment folder. Project compiles to a subfolder .\bin. To deploy, the asmx page and bin subfolder are copied to the production server. So now I upgrade to VS2005. OK, so except for the name, everything is changed. No more...

Have deployed ASP.Net 2.0 before, but I have a new problem. The server where I'm trying to deploy, which is a private network on a local government's IT department, has a file called web.config in its IIS directory which is used by other applications. My ASP.Net 2.0 project (with C# as the code-behind, for what it's worth) of course

We have upgraded an ASP.NET solution from VS2003 (.NET 1.1) to VS2005 (.NET 2.0). On rebuilding the solution, no dll appears in the bin folder of the Web site. Is this the usual case for VS2005 solutions? If so, how can a solution be deployed? If not, can anyone suggest what might have happened? Peter

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
