Windows credential lost upon password change

Hi there!
We are experiencing a very strange problem with our VB.NET application.

The application is using .NET Framework v1.1.4322 and the problem is
experienced only by Windows XP users.

When our application starts, it retrieves all required core assemblies
from a network path \\SERVER\DIRECT ORY\ and copy them locally using standard
System.IO classes. It then load those core assemblies through reflection
and get some other "modules" assemblies on a per-request basis from the
network, in the same way. All this process works really fine, except when
user changes it's password while the application is running.

When the password change occur, the application can no more reach the
network path used by the application because user is no more authenticated
to this server. To re-authenticate to the share, we need to manually
navigate to the network path through windows explorer and supply an
"administrative " user credentials when asked by windows, user's new
credentials are no more accepted.

What is weirder is that only the network path used by the application is
losing it's credentials, we can navigate anywhere else without
re-authenticating user.

Please note that our networking department have been working closely
with Microsoft people to diagnose the problem and the tests are now pointing
at our application as they found nothing wrong on the network side.

Anyone is having an idea of what may be going wrong here? Any help
would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi all, I am using Forms authentication with login.aspx page as below to issue a ticket, then send the cookie to the client such that next request from the client should bring the credential. It works perfectly with Internet Explorer. But if I use Windows Explorer to access the web site, the cookie is missing upon the subsequent request. Does not Windows Explorer also use IE component to access the web site?

Hello, I have been desperately trying to programmatically authenticate a windows user, create their credentials, and then redirect them to a different server while passing the credentials at the same time so that they don't have to login again. Specifically, I have two webservers in the same domain. When I have a user go to Webserver A (which uses basic authentication) I programmatically create either a user credential or impersonate...

I'm trying to change a user's password using objUser.Invoke("setPassword", "newpassword") It works fine as a console application if I'm logged in with someone with the correct permissions. If I'm logged in as a normal user it doesn't work, even though call before that, objUser.Username = "admin@domain.com" objUser.Password = "adminpassword"

Dear all, I wrote a function to use WebClient to retrieve information from the Web. It worked fine. However, the proxy setting of our firm has been changed. Proxy authentication is required now but I have no idea how to set the credential for the WebClient. I went through the .Net document and only found an example of reading credentials. Can anyone give me the idea how to set the WebClient credential? Thanks for any help

I have a client/server application that utilizes Impersonation on a TCP Channel. So I create the channel with the version of the constructor that takes an IDictionary of channel properties, and specify "impersonate = true". OK great - everything works - I can confirm on the server that the process runs in the context of the user that is making the remote call from the client. However, I also want to give the user the ability to...

I'm really starting to hate writing services -- or trying to, anyway. Why do I need to rename my project to the service name? Why do I need to set the "ServiceName" property to my service name? Why do I need to set a property within my code to the service name? Are all these required or am I just doing this for consistency purposes?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
