I always see the term "postback" from ASP book, but I am not sure if I fully
understand the meaning. Here's my understanding so far, please correct me if
any mistakes.
Here's a typical html form:
<form action="process.asp" method="post">
'GUI code
</form>
"postback" action happens when the user click the submit button, that means

I want to know if the PostBack concept applies to HTML web-based forms,
regardless of what programming technologies we use: For example, ASP,
ASP.NET, Java, CGI, etc...
PostBack means to send the HTML form to the web server? Since most of the
time I heard this term in ASP.NET circle, thats why I raise this question.
Please advise. Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is a question or more of a rant... but I'm
looking for some input on this from other developers out there. How
often has the following happened to you and how have you dealt with
it.
I am consulting on a new project. Originally I was going to get data
dumped to me from an external system, and import the needed data once
a week into a normalized design that I had created. I knew what my
fields were going to be,...

Hi Everyone,
I have been fighting a problem for a while and I wonder if someone out
there can help.
This problem has been presented in a number of news postings
previously but I am yet to see a response with a suitable resolution.
So here goes ...
We have a web site which stores an instance of a class into a Session,
which is used in a number of pages. The code looks something like:

I created simple ASP.NET web application to test how AutoPostBack property
in a web control works.
I set AutoPostBack property to be true of a web control. When I run the
application, here's the sequences when I step through the program:
1. Page loaded to the browser
2. Page_Load method is called with non-postback event
3. The user has certain actions on a control
4. Page_Load method is called with postback event

This is an old problem,, but I never had it so bad like this before,,
the events are refiring when clicking the Browser refresh button.
In the Submit button in my webform, I capture the server side click
event and I update session information to track the visibilty of some
panels in a wizard type navigation ("Next >>" and "<< Back" buttons)..
but the refresh button makes another event firing and takes the whole
thing to a Choes..

I have a user control being used instead of a frame page. when the user
clicks on a menu item I need to send the ID (integer value) of that menu as
a parameter in the postback of the user control which will be used to query
sql server to repopulate the datagrid in the user control.
I also wrapped the user control in a panel element so I could position it on
the page.
I'm clueless on how to get started with this.

Hello
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to persist a complex object across postbacks in ASP.NET
eg
* I have a Person class with methods to edit the person's info
* I navigate to my ASP.NET page "person_edit.aspx?PersonID=5321
* On Page_Load...If Not IsPostback I instantiate the object based on the Request("PersonID")
* I bind form fields to the properties of the object
* I execute 1 or more subs to edit the person's info

I've been googling for some time, and could not find the solution to
this problem.
I am testing the paging feature of gridview. I have a very simple web
form on which the user can select a few fields to be included in the
table, which is to be bound to the gridview.
The web form looks like so (Don't worry about the stupidity of this
web form for now.):

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
