Retrieving Client's Printer Collection Through ActiveX Control...

I am not sure if someone can help me, but please bare with me for a second...

My problem is to retreive the Client's Printer Collection for a web application and then print to the client's default printer or a printer of his choosing. I know Asp.Net is basically server-side. So I was thinking of using an ActiveX Control which is downloaded on to the client's machine and then the ActiveX control Reads the client's printer settings and use the activeX as client side to do the printing.

Now My question,
1) Could you give me some information, links, articles, tutorial, etc where I can have some sort of intrduction on how to create ActiveX controls through DotNet Technology and then use it within in an ASP.Net Web Application.(Wh ew...too much to ask for huh? :> )

2) IF this is not possible then is there some work around for this. Becauase lets say I am making a Web Appl for a Large Client whose the Offices are ranged across the country. Now if some employee wants to print something thru the application, then they will print to the Server's Default Printer (which could either be 10 floors up or across town, imagine!!) .

So any suggestions, inf os,etc w.r.to this would be very much appreciated.

Hi. I have never worked on a project that requires IE. So I have done the vast majority of my work server side, delivering cross-browser compliant HTML to the client. I am working on a bug fix to a system that is a munch of ASP, ASP.NET with hard-core client side JScript, VBScript (client-side) and ActiveX controls. The problem in question involves functionality that is common to an ActiveX control delivered to the client. I have never...

I am currently working on one of those projects that we all dread. The type that keeps growing out of scope faster than you can finish the component to deliver what they've already asked for. Including maybe, needing to develop things in languages / ways that you have never developed before. That precursor out of the way, here's my situation. My client is reshipping things via UPS. We have an interface to the UPS API which will...

Hi, I am writing a ASP.NET application using VB.NET and everything is hunky dorey except for one thing. I am having real problems printing to a printer on the client side. I need to be able to send escape characters to a printer and I was able to do this no problem on the server side with a VB.NET application. however, I have no clue how to do this on the client side. The closest thing I have found is to associate the javascript...

This may be a dumb question, but I'm not finding anything specifically what I'm looking for. Still kind of new to .NET as well. What I'm trying to do that I know I could do in VB6.0/ASP is to create a client side object set some properties and have it run some code. I know that in VB6/asp it was fairly straight forward by creating an ActiveX control, register it and then VBScripting the CreateObject("xxx.xxxx") command and it worked...

I'm about to start a new ASP.NET application, this application will generate several types of documents (PDF HTML XML-DOC) wich have to be printed at the client-side... I hope I posted this to the correct group. If not, please let me know and I will get it posted in the correct section. I have a web application developed in ASP.NET using C# for the code behind. I need to be able to print shipping labels from a web page within this application. The shipping label data is pulled from a 3rd party application and comes in binary format specific for certain brands of label printers. I have a class library...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
