Hi group I have been making a windows service to execute an external
application. I use a timer control, I can execute the application but
does't appear as a normal windows, just I see it in the windows task manager
as a
local service. I think it must appear as a normal process. Someone
knows about it or has any idea?

Excetremely annoying problem, I've an application with a long startup time.
So I created another form with my logo in it to as a splash screen.
The splash screen is run from another thread and is communicated solely
through static method and Invoke()'s
However, when I close my second form, the first one (main window) is hiding
under all the windows on the desktop.
If I don't close the splash screen, then everything is fine.

I have just upgraded from VB 4.0 to VB .NET 2002. One program under VB 4.0
was able to shut down or restart the (windows XP) machine using a series of
API calls. (Getlasterror, GetCurrentProcess, OpenProcessToken,
LookupPrivilegeValue, AdjustTokenPrivilegese, ExitWindowsEx.
I am trying to avoid using any API calls if possible and to use managed code

guys,
I need to write a program that should work on both windows and linux
systems. I have to do lot of file handling (file creation, checking
access permissions etc) and have to use lots of system specific APIs
(like popen etc) in my code. I don't want to put #ifdef windows and
#ifdef linux, for all system specific calls. This makes code quite
unreadable. Is there a good way of doing it ?

Hi.
I know my windows service works when i run it in debug mode on my dev
machine.
It also works in release mode on my dev machine. But, when I move the
service to
a production server, it exits immediately with a start/stop/nothing to
do error.
