Proper usage of solutions

My company is exploring options for converting our current
software to .Net. I have a few questions about solutions,
and the recommended way of handling them. Does Microsoft
offer any guidelines for this?

We have roughly 1500 programs in about 25 modules (This is
an ERP system). Any suggestions on how to use solution
files to properly handle all of this? I'm guessing we
would break them down in the following:

1) 1 solution for common libraries
2) 1 solution for each module

We are developing applications in VB.Net which might be very CPU intensive. Our problem is that other applications running on the same machine is barely getting any processor resources at all. This is especially problematic when running our application on a terminal server. Other users running other applications on the terminal server feel the...

I would like to survey how widespread the usage of smart pointers in C++ code is today. Any anecdotal experience about the frequency of usage of smart pointer for dynamic allocation in your own code or other people's code you have come across would be appreciated. I am also trying to identify the likelihood nad frequency of scenarios where...

I am working on an application in c# that runs in the background. All it does is monitor a value from a performance counter using a timer. It then draws these values in a chart Now, this application works for a long time, sometimes even days. But sometimes it just freezes and the CPU usag spikes to 100% for that process. I really don't...

Hi, I am currently having a problem with random, intermittent lock ups in my ASP.net application on our production server (99% CPU usage by 3 threads, indefinately). I currently use IIS Debug Tools to do a memory dump of the app when the lock up occurs, however the stack information is not very useful. I have just put a new build of our...

I'm looking to use a datagrid in an odd way and not making a lot of progress. I want to read in a text file and then allow a user to arbitraily divide the data into columns. I thought I might be able to do this with a datagrid by capturing mouse events and then adding/dropping/modifying columns and then redisplaying the data. So far, I'm...

I know it must sound like a newbie question, but I never really had to bother with that before, and I didn't even find an answer in the c.l.c FAQ I'd like to know what's the really proper way for input a string in an array of char that's dynamically allocated. I mean, I wish not to see any such things as char mystring; I don't want to see...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
