I'm starting to get frustrated with the mysql licensing model.
I was pushed into moving some of my companie's databases to it under
the impression that it was 'free' as in free beer and free speech, as
long as I didn't embed their engine into some application of mine.
So great I though, I don't want to 'embed' anything anywhere, I don't
even care about looking or modifying their source code, I just want to
get rid of those pesky MsSql machines, that only server web pages all
day long.
But now I'm reading http://www.mysql.com/products/licensing/
And it sounds an awful lot like, if you ever decide to run a website
of mysql and say, php, you sure need a license!!! So technically I
must be breaking the law now, and in those days of BSA inspections I
can't afford it.
So what is it? The resident geeks are now all confused over here.
Help!
