MYSQL speed

258 Contributor
I'm making a chat room with php, java using MYSQL..

My question is about mysql's speed... I'm thinking about at least 2000 users chatting at the same time and their chat window gets refreshed every 2 seconds. This means that MYSQL should send something like 1000 query in each second...

Now, before i start to make this chatroom I need to make sure that MYSQL is fast enough to do this

Thanks / Behzad

I think you will be just fine. There are companies like Yahoo.com, Lycos and Sony as well as many others using MySQL. MySQL Case Studies

Heya, Bnashenas.

Just make sure that your tables are well-indexed, and if you have the hardware for it, set up a MySQL cluster for optimum performance.

1000 queries per second is fine as long as each query takes less than a thousandth of a second to execute.

Thanks for your help

The good thing is that my program's refresh time ( 2 seconds ) starts from the time that window in successfully refreshed.. it means that if it takes more time the window will wait...
So if the database does not respond as fast as window needs then the window will wait

I just wanted to make sure if MYSQL is fast enough for this job.

Thanks again / Behzad
