I would like to add a feature to one of my network programs.
The requirement is to find out if a server is alive by sending
it requests. I know of the standard ICMP ping, and searched
for python modules able to 'PING'. The only hit I got was Jeremy
Hiltons ping package, written for Python 1.4, and it does not
work with the latest Python versions (2.0 upwards).
Are there other ways of finding out (in a few lines of code)

A bit puzzled by this...
1. Ask the validator to look at http://www.nantperis.org.uk/index.php.en
(the exact filename of the page) and it brings back an error: 300
Multiple Choices.
I could understand that if the filename was specified without the .en as
there are more than one version of the page in different languages. Is
it stripping the .en? Has anyone managed to get it to find a .en file

I have just set up an ASP-based site to a new Windows 2003 SP1 server with
IIS 6.0. Before now the site has run under IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000.
Every time an ASP page is opened, IE shows the error: "Cannot find server or
DNS Error".
All static page types open fine (HTM, GIF etc)
The confusing thing is - I have allowed Active Server Pages under Web
Service Extensions in the IIS manager. No other extensions are allowed,

I have a datagrid control within a datalist control. When
I try and do a "Find" on the control, the object comes
back with nothing and then my pgm crashes. I am 100% sure
that my datagird inside my datalist has an id
of "Datagrid3". dgChild comes back with "Nothing" while
debugging.

This should be relatively simple but I am unable to find an asp:button tag in
a datalist footer. I have tried it numerous ways including the FindControl
method from the many events that the DataList exposes and the result is
always null (I've determined the OnItemDataBound event will not find the
footer controls). I understand that I have to navigate the datalist object
tree, but I feel like it is a guessing game and am hesitant to do it...

This code is all executed on my dev machine running winXP sp2 and VS2005.
I'm using a c# 2.0 winforms app which talks to a c#2.0 asp.net app that also

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
