Hello,
I have encountered a strange problem and I hope you can help me to
understand it. What I want to do is to pass an array of chars to a
function that will split it up (on every location where a * occurs in
the string). This split function should allocate a 2D array of chars
and put the split results in different rows. The listing below shows
how I started to work on this. To keep the program simple and help
focus the program the...

Hi!
Stupid atof, it returns 0.0 when it tries to parse something like
"fish". So I don't know whether the number was really 0 or a string that
couldn't be parsed. Is there a better way to do this?

Hi everybody,
I've got a web application where I need to join several strings, some of
which are read from a dbase and display then IN the order they are joined.
I.E. I want to display "Hello {USERNAME}, How are you doing?" ({USERNAME} is
read from dbase).
Now the problem is that the strings around the {USERNAME} should be in hebrew,
and the USERNAME can be either hebrew or english or mixed.
Because of the BIDI algorithm if the string...

I'm looking for the "best" way to strip a large set of chars from a filename
string (my definition of best usually means succinct and readable). I
only want to allow alphanumeric chars, dashes, and periods. This is what I
would write in Perl (bless me father, for I have sinned...):
$filename =~ tr/\w.-//cd, or equivalently
$filename =~ s///
I could just use re.sub like the second example, but that's a bit overkill.
I'm trying to...

Hi,
Here's a little hack I put together to try to get to the bottom of a
problem I'm having with trying to base64 encode a hash value. The hash
value contains character codes 135 and 130 amongst others.
This snippet will set up a string of chars 190, 135, 130, 73, 242, 243,
10. It puts them into a bytearray.
string encodedData;

I am confused about all the various methods of handling XML in ASP.Net
2.0. I want to be able to stream XML to some clientside Javascript code
(snippet below):
var urlRequest = "../GetLendersAsXML.aspx"
var request = GXmlHttp.create();
request.open("GET", urlRequest, true);
request.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (request.readyState == 4) {
var xmlDoc = request.responseXML;

Can I use any method to allocate /deallocate memory other than new/
delete operators? Actually the problem is while using delete operator
in my ".sqc" files the application crashes. It seems the memory
location is locked by DB and so it throws an 'unhandled exception'.
Following is the code snippet from my application and now i dont wanna
touch the basic design.

In Python programs, you will quite frequently find code like the
following for removing a certain prefix from a string:
if url.startswith('http://'):
url = url
Similarly for stripping suffixes:
if filename.endswith('.html'):
filename = filename

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
