thread issues in FreeBSD

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/freebsd.html

says:

You can link MySQL on FreeBSD 4.x against the LinuxThreads library,
which avoids a few of the problems that the native FreeBSD thread
implementation has. For a very good comparison of LinuxThreads versus
native threads, see Jeremy Zawodny's article FreeBSD or Linux for your
MySQL Server? at http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/000697.html.

Are these thread issues resloved in FreeBSD 5.3 ?

This is one area that the FreeBSD 5.x branch set out to address. I can't
comment on MySQL specifically (I use PostgreSQL), but I haven't seen any
complaints about MySQL performance under FreeBSD in a while.

Yes. The above text is out of date and only applies to 4.x and older.

I have a user control created on the main thread. Let's say, for arguments sake, that it has a single property that maintains a private variable. If I want to set that property from a worker thread, do I need to use UserControl1.Invoke to set it, or can I just set it? After all, it is only changing a private variable. TIA Charles

I am developing some basic string / file manipulation C progams at home (Sparcstation running Solaris 9 and gcc) for my work environment (PA-RISC running HP-UX 11.11 and c99 compatible compiler). However I seem to have encountered problems performing the most basic of manipulations and comparisons. I have posted my test code below, and the results I get on each compiler. The crux of the matter is that the 'strstr' function differs wildly...

Hi there, I have installed python(2.4.3) & trac(0.9.4) on freebsd(4.8) from the ports collection and I seem to have an underlying problem with the thread module. Pysqlite is calling 'import thread' which is failing with "no such module" and causing it not to load. I thought that 'thread' was one of the core sys.modules and when I install python via ports I can see in the makefile that threading is turned on. Salling 'import thread' from...

I'm completely new to using background threading, though I have downloaded and run through several samples and understood how they worked. My question is: I have an app whose primary form will almost always lead to the user opening a certain child window that's fairly resource intensive to load. Is it possible to load this form in a backgroundworker and then use the Show method and hide method as necessary? Anyone know of

Hello list, I have a strange problem with os.walk and threads in python script. I have one script that create some threads and consume Queue. For every value in Queue this script run os.walk() and printing root dir. But if i increase number of threads the result are inconsistent compared with one thread. For example, run this code plus sort with one thread and after run again with ten threads and see diff(1).

Hi Marc-Andre, Thanks for the suggestion. I opened a ticket for this issue: http://bugs.python.org/issue4204 Now I understand the state of the multiprocessing module, but it's too bad to see math, mmap and readline modules, that worked fine before, cannot be built anymore.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
