Hi group,
Introduction:
I need access to database-functionality for a project.
The problem is I cannot be sure that a database exists on all places where I
need to run the code.
I can only expect PHP to be installed on all the intranets where the
software runs.
So to mimic some databasefunctionality I first thought to use plain files to

When installing the rpms (or the tar file) onto Red Hat Enteprise
Linux AS Beta 1 (Taroon), we get the follwing error:
Installing all prepared tables
/usr/bin/mysql_install_db: line 1: 7690 Segmentation fault
/usr/sbin/mysqld --bootstrap --skip-grant-tables --basedir=/
--datadir=/var/lib/mysql --skip-innodb --skip-bdb
Installation of grant tables failed
The log file simply shows a start and a stop of the server.

The war of the OSes was won a long time ago.
Unix has always been, and will continue to be, the Server OS in the form
of Linux.
Microsoft struggled mightily to win that battle -- creating a poor man's
DBMS, a broken email server and various other /application/ servers to
try and crack the Internet and IS markets.
In the case where they didn't spend their own money to get companies to

Hi all,
I'm looking for some advice on how best to implement storage of access
logs into a db/2 8.1.4 database running on a RH 7.2 system.
I have 5 (squid) web caches running here that service the whole
university. All access to external web sites must go through these
caches. Each cache generates a gzip'd access log file that's about
100Mbytes every night.

A client has moved a back-end data file to a Linux machine instead of
Windows. It now will only let one user log in at a time and gives some
sort of "admin file not found" error.
My first thought was permissions to create the LDB file but they swear
this is correct.
(read/write access for MDB & MDW files, read/write/create access in
folder)
Anyone come across a similar problem?

Note: This is different from previous post.
I am coming from a C/C++ background. I have a frontend (written in C#),
my backend was originally meant to be a J2EE application with
PostGreSQL. I am worried about support/maintenance issues going forward
since I no little J2EE (have some Java) - but am no longer able to rely
on the J2EE developer going forward.
I am now seriously considering using WAMP, but I am not yet terribly
convinced...

Hi to all. I have been spending a lot of time trying out various combinations of tools/libraries etc with a view to developing applications for Linux (KDE so preferably QT based) with a Mysql backend. So far I have looked at QTDesigner with pyuic, dabo, wxwidgets, eclipse with pydev and even OpenBase/Kexi as a way of creating a development environment of database applications on the Linux desktop addressing a 'client server' (presently MySQL)...

I have been working on this project using Ms Sql server, and been using the strongly typed datasets.
Now due to major changes happening (which was never supposed to occour) the windows seerver will be kept as a silent server, so everything will be moved to a nix based server.
Options for the backend came to MySql or PostGre. But my major concern is on how to convert the existing project to match up with the new database.
What would be a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
