Scribe Report Generator - version 1.0 released

Gestalt Corporation announces the release of the production version of
Scribe.

Scribe is a report generator that can:
- produce reports from one or more relational databases,
- e-mail the reports as PDF attachments or HTML-formatted content,
- publish them over the Web in PDF or HTML format,
- schedule them for periodic execution in the background,
- extract data from the database and export it in an ASCII file,
- traverse reports in a drill-down cascading fashion,
- enforce security based on a user access mask.

Scribe is based on graphical programming concepts, allowing the users to
define the process of:
- retrieving data from the database tables,
- performing the necessary calculations,
- creating pie, bar and line charts, and
- formatting data for printing
- all in the form of an executable graphical flowchart. Printing is done
through WYSIWYG page layout forms.

In addition to reporting database data, Scribe can also update database
tables by inserting, updating and deleting rows, using graphical flowcharts
with database-editing components.

Scribe is written in 100% Java and can be deployed on Windows and Linux
platforms. Its functionality can be extended by adding custom Java code;
third-party Java applications can run reports programmaticall y using the
Scribe API library.

The Personal version of Scribe is free.

Peter Norvig's creative thinking triggered renewed interest in PEP 289. That led to a number of contributors helping to re-work the pep details into a form that has been well received on the python-dev list: http://www.python.org/peps/pep-0289.html In brief, the PEP proposes a list comprehension style syntax for creating fast, memory efficient generator expressions on the fly: sum(x*x for x in roots)

Hello everyone, We are looking for beta-testers for our new product - Scribe Report Generator. At this moment, Scribe supports 6 relational databases, including Oracle, MS SQL Server 2000, and Sybase. Very briefly: Scribe is written in Java, is based on visual programming and can be extended by adding user-written Java classes; it comes with the API library to let other Java-based apps run Scribe reports programmatically.

Hello. This qualifies more as a post about a structured document language, but, at least, XML is a subset of that topic-group; also, I think that some folks, who frequent this list, may be familiar with the thing that I'm looking for more details about. In short: I'm hoping that someone may know of Scribe, and might have, or may know of,

I'm writing a VB2005 program that needs to generate some printed output, including a main table. At present I'm doing this output simply as a text file, which works well enough to allow printing via eg NotePad, but there are a couple of important refinements that I'd like to add: one or more images per page and, ideally, some slightly better control over the appearance of the output, ie use of colour, different fonts etc. Crucially, the...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
