Save As Function

Can anyone help me with a simple problem?

I want to insert a script that will force the browser to save a file. The
idea is to click on a download button for a file that would normally open in
the browser for example a .html or .pdf file. I have a webpage that has all
the necessary information available as a pdf, obviously you can right click
on a link and 'save as' but I wish to automate this function in a tidy way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't. It's a user setting.

Cheers
