how to bind the display of child window to a parent window

I'm facing a problem with displaying a child jsp on top of parent jsp.
on clicking a link in parent jsp the child jsp opens up and it has some list of values and other textboxes which gets populated from the cache. child has ok and cancel buttons.
my requirement is that as long as child window is active (ie, you havent clicked ok or cancel or closed the window otherwise), user should not be able to do any processing on parent.

self.focus() on onblur works fine but when i press alt+tab and go to some other window and then again come back to parent(not the child) using alt+tab.....it allows processing on parent(child remains initialized).

showmodaldialog is also not working as script continues running and becomes heavy.

everytime when control goes to parent and if child is there alive....focus should go to child.

can somebody help me in this?

i welcome any suggestion/solution.

you may use a lightbox-like dhtml-dialog as a modal-like dialog ...

kind regards
