Having problems using setInterval on a function which has a parameter. Help please.

Hi folks.
I tried to use setInterval like this but it did not work

setInterval ( removeitem (theitem)
{
theitem.style.display= "none";
},
1000 );

the function without the setInterval is

function removeitem(theitem)
{
theitem.style.display="none";
}
