has anyone ever used a javascript script file (.js) in a 301 redirect with

That would be easier to know what exactly special do you expect from
"Moved Permanently"? Browser wants a .js file - it gets a .js.file,
from server A directly or from server B redirected from server A, no
difference. Some servers and some browser patches impose a limit on max
amount of redirections for a single request, that's the only problem I
can think of. But even there the allowed amount is rather generous. So
unless you'll pass the request through more than 8-10 servers, I see no
problems.
