How to check whether it is first entry or second entry

Dear sir,

I am doing a project of employee attendance management system using jsp, servlets. In that project it will capture the date and time of that employee when he entered his id and submit. If first time he entered it have to capture the entry time in mysql, if second time he entered on the same day, how to check the condition whether the Id entered by the employee is first time or second time.

Please sir help me, i am waiting for your answer.

Why not just check the last entry's date, and if that date is less than the current date, it will be the first time, or else it will be the second time?

If you want to be able to also tell if it's third and fourth entry, then you may need to restructure your logging system.
