Open source text editor to turn into application

Hey Fellas (and gals),

I have several C++ and Java process that an employee runs on text files. Including some edits now being done in, believe it or not, Windows Notepad.

I'm looking into building a program (Java) that we can port these processes into. I'm envisioning a net-beans or eclipse type editor with these apps built in so that all the operator has to do is select one of the process to apply to the current file, and also be able to do hand correct any lines in the file. It would also be nice to highlight the lines a process changed and indicate the change in the scroll bar (like netbeans scans syntax errors and indicates it as a red marker on the scroll bar). Perhaps a plugin for log.

What would be nice if there was already an plain simple editor out there that we can add these processes as widgets to it. I do not want to build this app from scratch.

So I'm here looking for your suggestions, ideas, please.

Thanks for your time,

Dan
