Linking to a file in a war

If I have a website www.something.com and I have a war file
something.war, how can I make my www.something.com point to the
index.jsp file inside my war? Right now I just do an http refresh on
the index.html page I put in my root directory so that it redirects to
www.somthing.com/somthing/index.jsp but is there a way to do this in
unix(or some other way) so that it automatically does this without
having to load the index.html file and then redirect/refresh? I
appreciate the help.

yyou can add the following to your web.xml

<welcome-file-list id="WelcomeFileList_1">
<welcome-file>index.jsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
