Question regarding installation of java

I have a version of java (j2sdk1.4.0) that I installed on my machine in 2002
and was thinking of installing the most recent version. Is there something
that I should do before I go ahead and download the most recent update.

Thanks

Terry

Terry,

not really, you could uninstall your current JDK first if you want to. Or
you can keep it and install the new version to another directory and have
both environments available to you.

you could uninstall it but unless your pressed for h/d space it's
unnecessary, just leave it there, it might provide you a backup if the
new install doens't work

go ahead and install the latest off java.sun.com. however, beware of 1.5
as it is the latest and greatest, as in the use of templates. you
might be better of with 1.4.2
