Java Applet access to XML Web Service

P: n/a
Hello group.

I have been away from Java development for a while, but need to revisit it
as I feel it would be a great solution to a problem.

My company has several XML web services written in VB.NET and C#. The do
backend calculations and the such. What we are trying to accomplish is
create a Java Applet thin client that just does UI, and passes off the
necessary input data to be run via these existing web services. The XML web
services and the applet would be coming from the same web server. Pretty
simple strategy.

The question is, is this scenario possible, what tools or Java libraries
could realize this, and what type of restrictions would be in effect
security and application wise. Any ideas and the such would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you,
