Can java develop an program related to OS kernel, such as IPC,etc.

14 New Member
hello,
I've just finished an program migration from linux system V IPC to Windows Interprocess communication(i nclude other system calls,of course).
Now I have to take effort to re-develop it with JAVA,but it seems that java itself has little to do this,or it has but I don't know. The OS kernel mechanism I used include process, thread, semaphore, mutex ,filelock, pipe( or message queue),filemapp ing(or shared memory),etc.

I would be so grateful if some one could offer me a solution or schema~

thanks in advance

regards,
yogo

Java can do a lot of these things but only because the underlying OS can do it in a more or less portable way. If an OS has a particular feature that cannot be found in any other OS, Java can't do it either.

There have been attempts to write an OS in Java, there even exists a CPU that runs Java byte code directly but Java's target is not really there.

btw, they named that OS after me ;-)

kind regards,

Jos

Hello- I, the inquirydog, would like to solicit suggestions for a new web page I am making: I am creating a simple website that will translate concepts between windows os's, Linux, and the Java language with all of its related technologies. The website is at http://members.dslextreme.com/users/inquirydog, and is a mock-version of the Rosetta stone, which indicates concepts from each "platform"

After many years of using LISP, I'm taking a class in Java and finding the two roughly comparable in some ways and very different in other ways. Each has a decent size library of useful utilities as a standard portable part of the core language, the LISP package, and the java.lang package, respectively. Both have big integers, although only LISP has rationals as far as I can tell. Because CL supports keyword arguments, it has a wider range...

Hi I am planning to open a software company to develop client-server apps and web applications for my client. Now, i am in a difficult situation to determine what is the best platform i should use to develop the application for my end users. Should I use Java or MS.Net technology or should I mix both of them ? Basically, I have these criteria in mind before I decide which platform I should adopt : 1. Ease of use - which one is easy to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
