some additional question about design pattern

Hello!

I'm reading about design pattern adaptor in the GOF book and
there is something that sounds strange.
The text below each participant is the book explanation for each
participant.
I understand the book explanation for Target and Client.
But I don't understand the book explanation for Adaptee and Adaptor see
below.
Can somebody explain what the book is trying to say for the Adaptee
participant´?
Can somebody explain what the book is trying to say for the Adaptor
participant is?

So my only two questions is what does these two rows means. That is all?
Adaptee = defines an existing interface that needs adapting
Adaptor = adapts the interface of Adaptee to the Target interface

When you use the adaptor design pattern you have these five participants.
*Target
- defines the domain-specific interface that Client uses.

* Client
- collaborates with objects conforming to the Target interface.

*Adaptee
- defines an existing interface that needs adapting.

*Adaptor
- adapts the interface of Adaptee to the Target interface

The Top Level Design: The class Base is a factory class with a twist. It uses the Assembly/Type classes to extract all types that inherit from it and add them to the list of types that inherit from it. During run time, using a static method, the class creates an instance of the derived class using the Activator class and returns it. This design pattern is very similar to the design pattern applied by the Assembly class. The twist is...

I was just thinking about this, specifically wondering if there's any features that the C specification currently lacks, and which may be included in some future standardization. Of course, I speak only of features in the spirit of C; something like object-orientation, though a nice feature, does not belong in C. Something like being able to #define a #define would be very handy, though, e.g: #define DECLARE_FOO(bar) #define...

I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this, I could not locate one that was exactly appropriate for this topic. Over the last couple of years I've been doing a lot of reading on design patterns and different types of architectures for building high-performance, scalalble n-tier apps. I've used business objects for a while, since moving to C# and asp.net from classic asp but I'm wondering how I can

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
