Does Intelligent Font Matching Work?

I am unable to get intelligent font matching to work. I used a @font-face
with a Panose-1 descriptor. I tried it with both Internet Explorer 6 and
Firefox on Windows 98 SE. The Panose numbers are from the Windows Registry
key HKEY_LOCAL_MACH INE\Software\Mi crosoft\Shared Tools\Panose. I am unsure
if I made a coding error, or if the browsers do not support intelligent font
matching, or if there is some other cause.

In the example shown below, in the @font-face for MadeUpName, the Panose-1
numbers are from the Courier New font. I was hoping that Line 1 would be
printed in Courier New. But with both browsers, it actually prints in the
default font, which is Times New Roman.
<HTML>
<HEAD>

<STYLE TYPE="text/css" MEDIA="screen, print">
@font-face {
font-family: MadeUpName;
panose-1: 2 7 3 9 2 2 5 2 4 4;
}
<!--
Panose Numbers Font

2 7 3 9 2 2 5 2 4 4 Courier New
2 4 5 2 5 4 4 2 3 3 Georgia
5 5 1 2 1 7 6 2 5 7 Symbol
-->
</STYLE>

</HEAD>
<BODY>

<P Style="font-family:MadeUpNa me">Line 1<BR>
<FONT FACE="Courier New">Line 2</FONT>
</P>

</BODY>
</HTML>

I think browsers have so far not supported that stuff and that is why it
has been removed in CSS 2.1:

I am looking for some T_SQL code that would help us eliminate duplicate data entry into our mailing db. Finding and removing the existing dups is not rocket science, but I am looking for a complete solution. We also want to be able to come up with a T-SQL script to be intelligent enough to know if: "Bill Jones" is the same as "Billy Jones" or

I want to embed some source code lines in an article on a web page. As usual I want to use a fixed sized font for this souce code lines (read: the letters should have all the same width). The font normally used when I declare a <PRE>...</PRE> tag is very ugly. Is there another font which I can use to display fixed size text ? Arty

I know this must have been asked elsewhere, but I cannot find it. There is a piece of text on my web page that I don't want browsers to resize. IE won't resize it if I specify the size in px, but everything else will. Is there any way to prevent browsers from resizing text? If you could just point me to where this has already been answered, that would be great. Paul

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
