On some suggestions from this group, I've started to turn my internal
helpdesky site for our company to non-absolute positioning. I've been
reading O'Reilly's CSS book, and several web sites and tips.
For the most part, things are going OK, but I can't seem to find an
answer to a particular problem.
Using a simpler example, below's some stuff...what I'm trying to do,
is get the DIVs inside the .mainbody DIV to be 100% of their parent's...

This is a totally trivial CSS problem, I'm sure, but I don't get it.
I want a centered DIV with a fixed width between two other DIVs that
should fill the rest of the window/viewport (= 100%). How do I achieve
this? I tried width:auto for the buffer DIVs, but it didn't work.
This should at least work in IE 5.5 and Opera. A totally
standards-compliant solution would be appreciated, of course ... :/
This is waht I have:

Is there any way to work around the blank space created by hidden divs? I'm
trying to use a relatively postioned divs with show/hide behaviors to
annotate an image. The divs show/hide onMouseOver/onMouseOut but leave a
blank space on the page when hidden (the space where the divs would normally
be). Is it possible to use z-indexing to put regular content where the
hidden divs would be? When I try to do this, the layers don't unhide as...

I HATE DIVS AND DIFFERENT BROWSERS!!! i spent the whole day and night searching for a way to center align stupid divs, the problem is that the code is so sensitive, i lost my mind trying to make them work in a certain way (like some should scroll with a fixed background and others shouldn't scroll bla bla..) and the divs are nested and positioned in different ways and if i change something it gets messed up and what works in in IE doesn't work...

I've seen the threads here about molding 2 divs in a centered fashion. but I can't seem to solve this thing.
my blogger blog is functioning well on my site for now, but the blog feed (left) and the sidebar (right) doesn't center
here's the css i'm modifying to center it. i apologise for the mess.

pls look @ this pg, http://www.mayacove.com/design/divs.html in IE and FF..
in IE it looks fine, but in FF the main div (centered, 800px wide, blue
background; in reality the bg will be white..) won't display all the way
down... (I tried height:100% for it but it still only went as high as
the browser window..)
only reason am having this problem is that I want to do a
background-image BEHIND the main div.. but it's not...

This problem is everywhere! I have read all forums available, spent about 40+ hours on it and lost a bit of hair. I was going to explain what its ment to look like but I just realised removing the DocType makes it look like how I want it (with the div containing the ">" symbol the full length). But obviously I want this look with the DocType still on.

Hi -
So, I had this working perfectly, then had a small crash (the transmitter for my wireless mouse occassionally freaks out my MacBook Pro) and when I rebooted and opened up my file the two layered DIVs I had were no longer showing up correctly. I had this going fine for several hours -- it wasn't a happy accident I forgot to save. I'm totally mystified on this one.
Here's the summary: I want #container to be under #containerbranch, so...

I have a situation where I am making a calendaring solution and need to have
5 scrollable divs side by side in a week view but the week div needs to
scroll left and right. As it sits now, unless the week div is set to
something like 1500px, they wrap. The idea is not to have the browser scroll
left and right. Unfortunately this needs to work in IE6 also. =(
<div style="overflow:scroll; height: 500px; width: 700px;">

You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
