Layout question... bafflement reigns!

Hi...

I have a question about a custom layout in CSS. I am trying to achieve a
result where I have a inline container which contains an image and three
command buttons layed out as in this image:

http://www.plankmeister.org.uk/new/box-model.png

The red box is the containing object (p, div, span or whatever.) The blue is
the image, and the green boxes are the buttons.

I've tried many many different methods to achieve the desired result without
having to use position : absolute but have run out of knowledge so am asking
here. It appears that if I put a <br> inside an inline element, it inserts a
line break that breaks the inline content, not as I thought it would do:
place a line break inside the object.

Is it possible to do what I'm planning? Or will I have to resort to position
: absolute? I hope not, for the number of these 'nested' objects that is to
be displayed is unknown... It could be as little as one or as many as a
hundred, and having to work all that out server-side to write an inline
style sheet defining the tops and lefts of each box would be a nightmare...
Especially if then the user resized the browser window!

Hope someone can shed some light or offer advice...

I'm writing a form with a grid layout (similar to the ones in phpMyAdmin). The form will contain X number of columns and Y rows - all cells containg INPUT elements. As long as the data isn't tabular I want to avoid tables. Is there a smart way (DIVs and CSS) to do this form without a table? Could I consider a form like this as tabular data, and forget making it tableless? Thanks,

Hi, This is my first experiment with C#, I'm trying to handle the resize event. According to the documentation I should handle the Layout event for this. My question is: how do I register this event? The following code does not work because I never recieve the OnLoad event. What am I doing wrong? public class frmMain : System.Windows.Forms.Form { protected virtual void OnLoad(EventArgs e)

Hi, I develop an ASP.NET app which should be used from Internet, so I don't have control over what browsers will be used. I don't want to target every possible users, so I don't really mind is some user with a very ancient browser (Netscape 3 or 4, or IE 3) won't be able to view the site properly. However, I want that modern browsers (IE 5+, Netscape 6, Mozilla, Opera, and possible other browsers with new versions) to be able to...

For a QApplication (PyQt) on the small screen of my Zaurus 5500 PDA I try to layout my data output in a QScrollView as the central widget. I'd prefer to use QGridLayout, but cannot add it to the scroll view. sc=QScrollView(self) layout=QGridLayout(..., sc.viewport()) sc.addChild(layout) results in a TypeError.

Can anyone tell us the browsers/versions that exhibit errors when tables are nested too deeply? And how many levels of nesting produces errors? (not a tables vs CSS question)

First I'm pretty new to ASP.NET and I'm having a simple problem. I have small website with a header, sidebar and the the content. I want my content to appear beside my sidebar which seems to be a pretty standard layout. However when ever I resize my browser the content resizes below the sidebar. I've been digging through example websites can't seem to stop this behaviour. I had one person suggest Tables but I see a few posts that say...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
