Boxes with extra margin (or wrong size)

For a site I'm working on now, I've given up on full
cross-compatibility but since the site has 97% IE6 users, 2% Firefox
and 1% Other, hitting IE6 is critical.

The development site is: www.trianglevolleyball.org/cmsmadesimple

What I have is a basic layout with header, menu, and three lower
columns. In order to paste the background together (from slices out of
illustrator) I also have a thin box (called "topedge" that holds the
image for the top of the lower columns (see site for clarity).

In IE7 and Firefox it looks fine (the upper panels are a bit close but
I can fudge that later).

In IE6 however there is extra space at the bottom of the header, menu
and "topedge" boxes. The CSS for each of these boxes specifies "height"
and the page-wide CSS sets no margin or padding. They also don't have
borders so I presume the box model issues aren't the problem (although
I'm looking for any suggestions).

I haven't heard of anything else that makes IE6 interpret height
incorrectly but hopefully there are some experts out there.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All, I'm generating a pdf document using FOP .25 from Apache. I've created running dynamic headings (e.g. chapter titles) that change as dictated by the XML source I'm converting to PDF. Now thats fine. My clients wish to include a variable length note as well in this page region. Trouble is I've only been able to do this by statically sizing the region to house this data. If no data (e.g. the note) exists for a given heading - just...

I've been happily chugging along thinking I understood floating divs and now find that I know a lot less than I thought I did. And the more I try "fixing" things, the worse it gets. A lot of what I'd been doing looked okay in IE 6.0, but in Gecko browsers like my Netscape 7.1 (I've been told they conform better to the standards than does IE), they look terrible. http://trialanderror.100freemb.com/20040115FloatDiv.html is a page I put...

This page http://www.xs4all.nl/~hogen/MenNew/voorpagina.htm behaves as intended in FF 1.01 and Opera 7, but when viewed in IE 6 the menu 'buttons' in the left sidebar, get way too much white at the bottom. I have been fiddling with margins and paddings, but cannot get rid of the extra white. Can someone please help me out? Thank you. -- Groet, Adriana

Hi. I'm trying to get a page layout using css instead of tables, where the various sections have fixed widths even when you resize the browser window. The css below produces the correct layout but I cannot get the center id=txt section to fix at 700px. Does anyone know how I can achieve this?

Is it possible to find the size of the MDIClient area, excluding the space already used by docked controls? I have thought I could perhaps create a new control, set it's Dock property to Fill and see how big that is, but there must be a better way. I would have to do this in the Resize event TIA Phil.

Hello I have a UserControl sized to 100; 200 When I drop it in my form the initial size is 100;200 (as I prefer). Then I decided to change the size of my UserControl to 200;200 but although I have not set any value to the size of the dropped control in my form, recompiling the project does not affect the new size of the user control in my form. Surprisingly if I reset the Size property of my user control in the form, the size changes...

Hello guys, I really need some help here. Trying to get this site working on different browsers. FF/Chrome etc are no probs. But as you'll see IE7 adds some extra margin under my navbar. How do I fix this? As for IE6...it is insane, it's ruined in that. I take it IE6 doesn't support PNGs? Do I have to use GIFs? And the transparency is just the beginning. The layout is insanely messed up. I've uploaded to my own free host for you to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
