The main tool available in Excel in looking for trends is the trend line facility associated with charts. For any data series plotted on a chart you can fit a linear, logarithmic or polynomial regression line to the data, and show the correlation co-efficient to see how 'good a fit' the trend line is. For polynomial fits, I find that second and third order polynomials are the most suitable for modelling non-linear trends in real-life data.

You can also show the line equation on the chart. For a linear regression line the slope value tells you on average how fast the data is changing (growing or declining) per unit of time plotted on the x-axis. For non-linear trends the interpretation of the trend equation is more complex than this, but it is still useful to know.

Hi I'm using tomcat 4.0 on a solaris platform, and using the internal API CGIServlet.java to handle the CGI's. The servlet spawns off a Process and writes on it's output stream (BufferedOutputStream) the POST data. This seems to work quite well, except when large POST data is recieved; the servlet throws a Broken Pipe I/O exception. The irony is that inspite of this , the cgi is actually invoked, and executed too.

My webserver calls a component on another server through DCOM, the component goes to SQL, SQL raises the exception and here is what the client gets: "Cannot find member name System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError" I believe the issue is related to the fact that webserver runs the framework 1.1 and the component server has the framework 1.0 There are a number of posting in the different ng on this topic, but I cannot find a resolution.

I am looking for a way to use several Excel functions (e.g. LINEST, LOGEST and RSQ) in C#. Do Microsoft or any third parties offer good tools to enable the use of such functions from within C# without having to launch or access Excel? If so, where may these be found? Thank you.

Many of us have noticed that there are some very useful functions available to you when using Excel, but these same functions are not available, as standard, in Access. A particular issue I had recently (and I know others have come across this recently too) is rounding up and down. I know the Excel ROUNDUP() function rounds away from zero rather than upwards specifically, but is still useful in most circumstances. To allow an Access...

Periodically, the same or similar question appears in our Access Forum: How can I use Excel Functions within Access? For this reason, I decided to make this Subject TheScripts Tip of the Week. In order to demonstrate the use of Excel Functions within the context of Access, I performed the following steps in sequence: Created a Public Function called fStripNonPrintableCharacters() which will encapsulate the logic for executing the Excel...

Hi, I am using C# to read large FoxPro data file (DBF). Everything works fine except it is too slow to load the file in buffer (I think). Anybody know how to solve this problem please instruct me how. I am new to C# so I don't know alternative way of reading data faster from database. Appreciate your help. *** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
