I am not the most talented programmer to grace the earth by a long
shot. But I've got a gripe I need to air about the .NET implementaion
of Visual Basic. I can live with alot of the major changes to the
structure and syntax of the code but I thought the purpose of
re-engineering the damn thing would result in improved performance all
around, well the .NET seems to really suck doing things graphically on
forms that VB6 Seemed to do fine....

hope i'm not stating the obvious for you,
but you *are* aware, i presume, that your loading app
wants to find the loaded app in the loading app's runtime
directory, or a sub directory of the loading apps runtime
directory...
(i recently changed the build path of a "loaded at
runtime" dll and chased this very symptom for a few days.)

Hi
Does anyone know of any issues about loading config files for windows
forms applications?
I have an application that utilizes a config file that holds my database
connection string as well as other user settings. With the original VS.NET,
when loading the application through the IDE debugger everything went as
planned and the config file was loaded.
Now with VS.NET 2003 it seems that when I run the debugger the config file

I have an application that I would like third party developers to be
able to create Plug-ins that will be dynamically loaded into our
application to extend functionality.
I have utilized the "Let Users Add Functionality to Your .NET
Applications with Macros and Plug-Ins" article at MSDN for the dynamic
loading of DLLs
http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/03/10/Plug-Ins/default.aspx

I'm confused about what precisely the limitations are on loading plugins in
separate app domains. In all my previous apps that supported plugins, I've
loaded them into the same domain as the app, but I've just started playing
around with separate AppDomains and I'm finding that I'm not having problems
where I expected I would, so maybe someone can help me understand a bit
better.
I've read that objects instantiated in separate AppDomains...

Hi NG!
I have troubles with loading an application to its own app domain.
I have two applications: An caller application named
"OfficeTSWCallerDemo" (in a directory like
"X:\Blablabla\AppA\bin\Debug") and an callee application named
"GEMOfficeTSW" (in a directory like "X:\Gagaga\AppB\bin\Debug"). The
latter saves settings in its GEMOfficeTSW.exe.config and user.config in
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application

Back in COM time, it's possible to use #import statement in cpp to
load COM object type info and use it at coding time. When the
application is started, the underlying COM DLL will not be loaded
until that part of code is called.
Is there a similar thing in .Net (C#) application ?
When I create C# application, I need to add reference to another
assembly if I want to use its classes (I don't want to use reflection
here). But this will...

We've got a wierd failure happening on just one machine. One part of our
product uses a 3rd party search implementation (dtSearch). DtSearch has a
native core (dten600.dll), late-bound, and a managed wrapper
(dtSearchNetApi2.dll).
For reasons unknown our build and msi packaging process includes
dtSearchNetApi2.dll but not dten600.dll in all packages, as well as a couple
of assemblies that reference it, even though they are not used by...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
