Why would a flash shared object SharedObject.ge tLocal call crash?

4 New Member
I've implemented flash shared objects (FSO's) in javascript successfully, in part thanks to this helpful webpage: http://www.permadi.com/tutorial/flashSharedObje ct/index.html

I have not found the answer to my question anywhere so am posting it here. Is there any reason why the call to SharedObject.ge tLocal() would crash internally rather than simply returning valid data or an error code indicating it couldn't store the data? This may seem like a silly question, as of course anything can crash, but I'm asking about *known* issues that I may be able to handle in my calling javascript module.

If anyone can shed some insight on this, I would appreciate it. As I'm fairly new to javascript and flash, a detailed response would be helpful. Thanks,

S.

As an addendum to my previous post, we *are* now seeing the SWF call to store a flash shared object fail, or at least the actionscript does not call the javascript callback function. This is a serious problem for us, so if anyone has any ideas, please reply! Thanks!

Well we figured one major aspect out, which is not clearly documented in most places. Flash objects are only *fully* supported in Flash version 6.0.65, *not* simply version 6 as most websites indicate (including Adobe's). So that solves most of our problems...don' t even use flash if the user's current flash player version is not 6.0.65 or above. Had to really dig for that one!

I am developing an HTML javascript application and I want to preserve state in a way that can be book-marked. I chose HTML anchors as a means of preserving state. When the application changes state, the HTML page URL would change from default.html to default.html#stateA. example: http://pearstudios.com/javascript/locationHashAndFlash.html This has worked perfectly within HTML and javascript alone, however, when connecting Flash and...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
