Store a query result in a variable

I want to store a query result in a variable so that I can retrieve the values jus by using the variables
I tried
Set A= select B from TABLE_NAME
But it is not working , Can anyone give me the correct syntax

In SQL Server, you can use temporary table variables like so:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. DECLARE @t TABLE (fieldName INT);
  2. INSERT INTO @t SELECT * FROM tableName;
I don't know if the same is possible for DB2.
