Dear oracle gurus,
I have created a non partitioned table with no indexes and stuffed in
about 15 million rows. Using oracle 8.1.7.4 standard. I then deleted 1
million and it took 1 solid hour. How can i reduce the time for
deletes? Since oracle default locking behavior is row level locking, i
changed to lock the table in exclusive mode before deleting. This dint
help..

I'm confused about something I did this week. I have an 8.1.7.4 database with tables partitioned by dates. I recently dropped my maxvalue tablespace, added a few more partitions for up-coming dates, then put the maxval partition back on. (I save the data that was in the maxval partition first and put it back in when I was done.
These tables also contains BLOBS.
All of my indexes were at a status of either "Valid" or "Usable" in the case of...

Hello,
I have a large set of data that I have set up as a partitioned view.
The view is partitioned by a datetime column and the individual tables
each represent one month's worth of data. I need to keep at least two
year's worth of data at all times, but after two years I can archive
the data. A sample of the code used is below. It is simplified for
space reasons.

I have an archival process on a large database that runs once a month.
At the beginning of the process the triggers and indexes on the
tables whose data is moved are dropped, the data is moved and then the
triggers and indexes are recreated at the end. This produces a
massive improvement in performance.

I have a partitioned view sitting over several tables and I'm slowly
approaching the 256 number. Can anybody confirm if there is such a
limit for the maximum number of tables that a partitioned view can
hold?
If this is true, does anybody have any suggestions or ideas to work
around this max limit?

The ETL application loaded around 3000 rows in 14 seconds in a Development
database while it took 2 hours to load in a UAT database.
UAT db is partitioned.
Dev db is not partitioned.
the application looks for existing rows in the table...if they already
exist then it updates otherwise inserts them.
The table is pretty large, around 6.5 million rows.

Hello all!
I created a range-partitioned table, and noticed that indexes were created
as "NOT PARTITIONED" (through db2look), even though I ran the index creating
commands without this parameter.
Not that I care too much now about it :-)
But what will happen when once upon a time in the future I execute the
"attach partition" command, and so add another partition to the existing
(partitioned) table.
Will the indexes then be automatically...
