Date formatting with DB2 type 4 JDBC Driver

1 New Member
In my company we are runing java Webshere applications on Windows platform and connecting to DB2 V8 on z/OS mainframe. Until now we have used the type 2 JDBC driver, which are using the DB2 Connect software to obtain connection.
Right now we are planning to move to type 4 JDBC driver, which supports direct connection to DB2 V8 on z/OS using native TCP/IP. That is, we don't need the DB2 Connect overhead anymore.

But we seem to have a problem with date formatting (EUR, ISO or LOCAL), as our applications need to present dates in different formats. By using the DB2 Connect software (type 2) the date format can be defined as a property on each predefined and cataloged database connection and thus deliver dates in desired format.
But by using Type 4 driver and pure TCP/IP we don't have this option. I guess we have to append the desired date format as a property to the connection string along with user credentials etc., but I haven't been able to find any documentation so far in any IBM books.
Can somebody help, please.

Thanks, Hylle

Hi everyone Description of the problem: Using a PreparedStatement to write down an integer (int) plus a timestamp for testing purposes. When read out again the integer looks very different. We found that it was shifted three Bytes to the left, i.e. 4 becomes hex 4000000 which is 67108864 in decimal base. This means that the value written and the value read sometimes do not match, which is of course inacceptable for all real world...

So I had my jdbc db28.2 fix pack 9 client running because I had taken the jars from <DB2ROOT>/java folder from Enterprise Edition 8.2 fix pack 9, db2java.zip, db2jcc.zip, and the license jar. Using these everything works. But then I wanted to make sure that I was using the redistributable jars (type 4 ) available from ibm.com. So I downloaded them from ibm. But they blow up in my face.... I'm using db2jcc.jar and the license file...

I'm trying to use the JDBC Universal driver to get a Type 4 connection in a Java client program running under DB2 V8.2.1 but I keep getting a "connection refused: connect" message. I'm running DB2 Personal Edition so I am trying to connect to the database SQLPROCS on this same machine. I've checked the manual and am imitating the examples as well as I can but the examples are geared to remote machines, not the local one, so I strongly...

I have a problem updating date values using Java via JDBC-ODBC to Access. <snip rs.updateTimestamp(theIndex, theTimeStamp); rs.updateRow(); <snip> (where theTimeStamp is a valid Java Timestamp and theIndex is the column index in the resultset.) is the way specified in the Java API. Is it true that there are no type 4 jdbc drivers to connect to a DB2 server v7.1? The DB2 server is hosted on ACF2 (OS/390). We would be connecting from windows and solaris boxes. If it is true, what are my options? Will I have to install db2 connect on every client machine that needs to connect to the DB2 servers? Is the DB2 Connect freely available or will we have to purchase it? I have also read on this group that we can install DB2...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
