Transaction Processing over XML (TPox): New Release (1.1).

In January, I announced our TPoX benchmark that became public on
tpox.sourceforg e.net. We just had its next release.

What is new?

(1) TPoX 1.1 contains six sub-document XML level updates.

(2) The data generation now also produces XML fragments for
"accounts". These are required by Update2 which inserts new accounts
into existing custacc documents.

(3) The workload driver has new options -pc, -cl and -m.
-pc <ncomputes the n-th percentile of the response times for
each transaction type.
-cl <lcomputes the confidence interval with confidence level l
for the response times of each transaction type.
If -pc and/or -cl are used, then by default 50MB of main memory
are used to collect and compute these statistics. The -m option can be
used to change the memory.

(4) The workload driver also has the following enhancements:

- Enhancements to support the new updates, in particular Update2
which inserts a new account into an existing custacc document.
- Two new lists with possible parameter values
- Shows throughput in transactions per seconds (in addition to the
previous transactions per minute)
- Shows number of result rows returned for each query if verbosity
level 2 is used.
- Allows XML inserts into CLOB columns (for comparison purposes).
- Allows uniformly distributed decimal values as input for parameter
markers in query predicates.
- Various bug fixes (see https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?gro...5&atid=915227).

(5) Small correction in the data generation for "orders":

(6) Updated documentation to reflect all of the above.

Your comments and contributions are welcome! Thanks.

Does PHP have a feature to associate Cookie sessions with a persistent database connection that will allow a single transaction across multiple HTTP requests? Here is how I imagine my process: I have an series of interactive HTML forms. The user begins a Cookie session. A database connection is opened and a transaction is begun. After the user goes through any number of pages where they update the database they finish on a page where...

We have an inhouse replication process which is causing us headaches when we try to run more than one copy of it against the same target database (we support unlimited remote databases so we may have to process in 20 replication files on a Monday morning). The issue I'm seeing is that computer 1 starts processing in the inserts/updates and continues through the process. Computer 2 starts processing inserts/updates fine as well but at...

I have to convert an java web application currently using an Oracle DB back end to one using a Postgres backend. In Oracle much of the application logic is abstracted away from the java middleware layer using stored procedures within the Oracle database. There are certain features in Oracle that appear to be missing from Postgres which are causing us some concern, and we wondered how much we're going to have to butcher the backend and db...

Hi, The bigger my C# web-application gets, the more places I need to put in the tedious retrying block of code to make sure operations that can run into database deadlocks are re-run (retried) 3-4 times and give up if after that it's still in deadlock. I'm very sure that many experienced people out there already deal with this issue somehow. Is there an alternative to it? Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

The first release of the Transaction Processing over XML (TPoX) database benchmark took place last week! Please take a look at tpox.sourceforge.net. The benchmark consists of XML schemas, XML data generation, concurrent XML workloads (write-only, read-only and mixed), a workload driver to take measurements and more. Currently some things work on DB2 only, but will be extended to other systems later. The download of the TPoX package...

Transaction Processing is a Database term that refers to the process of grouping changes to your data into a batch that is treated as a single, atomic unit. Either the entire batch of transactions succeeds, or they all fail. A typical illustration of a Transaction is the transferring of data from one account to another in a banking application. You wouldn’t want your originating account debited a specific amount, have an error occur, and not...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
