When I first discovered shared memory (between multiple processes) I
immediately started thinking of how to build my own VM subsystem +
locking mechanisms for a large single block of memory. This seems like
one option, the other appears to be just having each "object" you want
to share be a shared mem space to itself: allocate objects into a
defined shared mem space. But here you have many many objects being
shared. Having a VM...

For once, I have a customer that is more concerned with reducing the
memory usage than with increasing performance - a new direction in
tuning for me. I'm looking at db2 agent processes on the system - db2
7.2 fp 11 on RH Linux - no parallelism (neither inter or intra
partition). There are generally about 14 connections and therefore
about 14 db2agents. OS analysis shows that each agent is using in the
range of 260 - 270 MB of memory....

Would like to know how to calculate total memory used by DB2 on a
given system/instance. Always I was trying to go through DBM and
individual DB configuration parameters and calculate individually.
If you have any home grown tools to calculate total memory,
please share with us.
Thank You.

How come .Net applications use so much memory? Every application I compile
uses at least 10 MB of memory, even the ones consisting of only a form and
nothing else. If I minimize them though the memory usage drops to a couple
hundred KB. Why?
Is there anything I should to to prevent this? I have compiled in release
and deactivated all forms of debugging, I think!
Thanks,
Philip

Having fixed a memory leak (not the leak of a Python reference, some
other stuff I wasn't properly freeing in certain cases) in a C-coded
extension I maintain, I need a way to test that the leak is indeed
fixed. Being in a hurry, I originally used a q&d hack...:
if sys.platform in ('linux2', 'darwin'):
def _memsize():
""" this function tries to return a measurement of how much memory
this process is consuming, in some arbitrary unit...

Hi:
Our postgres database has tables with several million rows in a server
running Red Hat 8.0 with 1GB of memory. Recently we are experiencing a
low performance in the access to the server via HTTP, after rebooting
the server the speed is the same.
I have noticed that available memory is aparently too low, according to top:
12:58pm up 1:28, 3 users, load average: 0,00, 0,01, 0,09

Hi All,
I have a program written in VC++. I want to calculate the memory
consumed by each of the individual functions within the program. So
can anyone suggest how this could be done? I need to do this without
overloading my new and delete operators. I also tried using the
windows monitoring service but could not benefit much from it. Also
please suggest if there are in any built windows api to acheive this
Thanks & regards,
Prathamesh

Hello, I'm trying to make a program that will multiply 2 matrices using shmget() and fork(). For example, I would need to multiply a 64 x 64 matrix using 4 processes or 16 processes, and the multi-processes will be created using fork. Each process will calculate a partition of the final Matrix
Now, I'm not sure whether I should write all the matrices to the shared memory or just a single integer to keep track of what partition to calculate....

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
