Are LOB's replciated using HADR ?

I am trying to determine whether LOB's are replciated using HADR. The
following documentation from the on-line manuals
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...help/index.jsp suggest that
LOB's are not replicated on HADR:
------------------------------------------------
"Non-replicated operations for high availability disaster recovery:

High availability disaster recovery (HADR) uses database logs to
replicate data to the standby database. Non-logged operations are
allowed on the primary database, but not replicated to the standby
database. Non-replicated operations include, but are not limited to,
the following operations:

- BLOBs and CLOBs are not replicated; however, the space for them will
be allocated on the standby database."
-------------------------------------------------

So I assuming that even LOB's that are logged on the primary server are
not replicated to the backup in HADR? But I assume it also means that
if the LOB data is read only (not updated), then we could store the
data on both servers.

I'm told this doc error will be corrected in the next refresh.

Can you tell me specifically what the doc error is?

Does that mean that HADR will replciate LOB's?

Nov 12 '05 #3

The current documentation categorizing LOBs among non-logged items is
incorrect. Some LOBs are logged and some aren't. Logged LOBs are
replicated just fine by HADR, non-logged LOBs are not.

The doc does not say that LOB's are not logged. It says they are not
replicated with HADR. The InfoCenter on-line doc says:

"BLOBs and CLOBs are not replicated; however, the space for them will be
allocated on the standby database."

This is the on-line version of the manuals at the IBM website. How come it
has not been updated?

Anyone know if HADR has a problem replicating XML Extender?

The XML extender is, at the end of the day, just an application.
It should work.

The doc _implies_ that LOBs are not replicated because they are not logged.
What it should state is that LOBs which have been specified as NOT
LOGGED are not replicated (because they are not logged...)

I will have to respectively disagree. The doc says flat out that "BLOBs and
CLOBs are not replicated" and there is no mention of logging, or not
logging, for the reason they are not replicated.

The reason I asked is that Q-Replication doc states that it will not
replicate the DB2 Extenders. I realize that I am asking about HADR, but I
need to make sure.

Is there a way to run the db2-generated HADR-create script outside of DB2CC beyond the obvious? My DB2CC generates the HADR script and then abends because of a java error meaning I can't finish my HADR creation. In looking at the script it isn't necessarily obvious which commands should run on the primary server and which should be run on the standby server.

If server 01 running HADR in the primary role crashes, and the DBA does a HADR takeover by force on the 02 server to switch roles, then the 02 server is now the primary. What happens when the Server 01 is brought back up? It still thinks it is the primary because that was its role when it crashed and it does not know about the takeover by force command that was issued. Does the 01 server check the 02 server to see what role they are in...

I was hoping I might be able to get an answer regarding DB2 and HADR. Let me preface this by saying that I know very little about networking and I'm not familiar with the HADR product or clustering. But, I've been asked to research a couple issues for a client. They are thinking about implementing HADR. They have DB2 production databases running on more than one box. Does a liscense for HADR need to be purchased for each production box...

db2 8.1 fix pack 12 on AIX 5.3 This is a newly configured HADR machine. The HADR was up and running. I was 'playing' around some on the standby and did a db2 deactivate and things sort of went down hill from there. Though the Standby machine seemed to know it was a standby it would not connect to the primary. I could not even do a db2 get snapshot to view the hadr status on the machine. I was wanting to do a few HADR tests before I...
