Querying on table within a variable

Is there anyway I can query on a table that is present within another
variable?
This is the situation: I get a table name from a column 'TBNAME' from
the catalog table SYSCOLUMNS and I would like run a query on the table
present in the 'TBNAME'.
I've looked into reference manuals & searched this group and couldn't
find answer to this.
I appreciate if anyone can tell me if this can be done by a SQL query.

Thanks,
Adit

You need to use dynamic SQL and "glue together" teh statement using the
variable content.
For cursors use a dynamic cursor. For DDL or UPDATE, etc you can simply
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE stmttxt without having to worry about prepare.

I loaded a XSLT stylesheet into a XMLDocument to retrieve some of the data. I received an exception when the SelectNodes method was invoked. Q324899 I queried MSDN for Namespace Manager and found this article: "Manage namespaces Using the XmlNamespace Manager"...

I wonder if someone has any ideas about the following. I am currently producing some reports for a manufacturing company who work with metal. A finished part can contain multiple sub-parts to make up the finished part. The sub-parts can also be made up of sub-parts and those sub-parts can also be made up of sub-parts etc etc. All parts are contained within the same table and I have a seperate table

I'm working on a win appication that is constantly querying a small-sized DB. Until now, I've been using Selects from within my app but, all of a sudden I remembered of an application I was working on a year ago (with PowerBuilder) that queried the DB by invoking stored procedures that return the data to the application. One of the main problems was that there were over 100 SPs so it was pretty difficult to maintain. So my question: Is...

Hey all, Working on revamping our Intranet here and making use of the LDPA, Active Directory, Directory Services, etc. that .Net provides. I am still fairly new on this subject, so the problem I have run into I am not sure how to fix, and really not sure what is causing it. Here's what is going on (test server - Windows 2003 Server): I have a page in a folder (under anonymous authentication in IIS6) that has a link on it that...

I have a SQL table comprised of 31 columns. The first column is simply an id column, the next 30 columns are labelled ,.... The numerical columns have a tinyint type and the data stored is either 1 or null. I wish to count the number of times a one appears in one column simultaneously with another column: eg count the number of times 1 appears in column and 1 also appears in column in the same row:

I was wondering if it is possible to continuously query a real-time datastream using SQL Server. Does anyone have any experience of this? I have found LINUX based systems such as Borealis and STREAM. I would prefer to use a Windows based system as the program using the query results is Windows based.

I will admit up front that this is to help with an assignment for a class, however, I'm looking for information outside the scope of the assignment because I want to do something cooler. The assignment is intended to demonstrate the ability to query against a joined table. I am supposed to get the values for all fields of a given datatype within these 2 tables that are joined. The teacher expects that we will look at the descriptions of the...

Hi Cj, I also noticed that the "Act" variable here seems hasn't been declared(or declared anywhere else?). I've try building the same code and got the same result and the "Operator '+' cannot be applied to operands of type 'string' " error does pointing to the "Act.Trim" which should be of method call syntax such as Act.Trim() After change it, that error is eliminated.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
