a question regarding processor

75 New Member
hello,
i have a query regarding processor.actually, what does a 32 bit processor really mean?does it mean that it can process 2^32 bits of data at a time?does it mean that the size of data bus is 32?or does it mean that the size of address bus is 32?
what is the advantage of 64 bit processor over a 32 bit processor?
thanks for your reply in advance.

A 32 bit processor means it can handle numbers up to 2^32, or 4294967295. A 64 bit processor can handle numbers up to 2^64, which is considerably larger.

This means that for whole numbers, it can handle more, and for numbers that require a decimal, it can handle them more precisely.

There's larger implications than just the size of the number it can hold. It also means it can store more information in the working area which means it can accomplish tasks faster because it's slow to move bits to and from the working area.

Hi group, This question might seem not to be completely php related, but it should be obvious it has a mysql/php background. I want to run windows 2000, apache/php/mysql on a new server here. Now, it would run on virtually all hardware ( uhm, wonder about the ZX-Spectrum, nevermind) but I would like to know what processor could do the...

Regarding the message appended below: I was in a similar situation, only I had 4 "small" (RAM-wise) legacy processors in a fault-tolerant Tandem K100 system. The system came with an old Borland C++ compiler but I didn't want to become an expert in anachronistic C++ trivia, so I ported Lua (www.lua.org) using the perfectly serviceable C...

Dear All, I have created a .Net service in 2.0 and running it on a machine that has a Quad Processor. It is failing with the following error. Hi I need to protect my application in a way. Just a "soft" protection, not a very strong one. So, using WMI I get the processor ID and compare it against a key. Protection works well, until someone (me) decides to clone the system. After cloning, all cloned systems work with the same key. That is, WMI returns the same processor id on all...

Hi, I'm currently looking into AurigaDoc (aurigadoc.sourceforge.net) and it seems like this documentation software is poorly documented itself :) The program can create various output formats using XSLT and a CSS if you write your document in a specific AurigaDoc XML syntax. As I'm pretty new to XML and the software commonly used to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...
