How to perform indexed search of records in a file( not hashing)?

File contains 1000 records of employees. how to search for a particular record from a file using indexing?

The word indexing is a general term. It isn't immediately obvious what precise meaning your instructor has in mind. What has your instructor told you about "indexing"?
