compression

Hi, I need an api to simply compress/decompress my binary data. I've gone through zlib docs and found gzstream c++ wrapper, but it works with files only. using zlib directly is not possible for me.

I need in-memory compression and decompression. pls suggest some lib or wrapper to use for this purpose.

Thanks

If you look up compression on wikipedia then you can follow links through to various algorithm implementations.

Do not choose a lossy algorithm.

zlib will do buffer to buffer compression and decompression. I am researching using zlib now for some code I am writing. Here is a link to a site with a good example. The example does use a file for input and output but zlib doesnt care how you get it in the buffer as long as you do.
