Converting program from gcc v3 to gcc v6

6 New Member
But then i guess openprot would open the file in a protected mode...

I have another query..please help..
I am using a GCC c++ compiler of version 3 and I need to port my application to a new machine having aCC compiler of version 6. Is it possible? If not what other option do I have as reverting to the older version is not an option...

As this is a new question, I've moved it to its own thread.

Have you tried to compile the project with the new version of gcc? I would say that is mostly depending on what other libraries and modules you had installed/included (getch()?).

As I re-read your post, you say just ' a CC compiler', not gcc? My guess is that if you find a compiler that is compliant (same version of C) with your gcc v3 compiler, and if you have not included outdated libraries, it will compile.

It is the Hp "aCC" compiler v6. The architecture of the new machine to which I am porting my application demands this version and any previous versions would not work.

I have tried compiling the code but there are numerous syntax differences and fixing one error is leading to another one and is getting recursive.

Hmm, do you have the documentation from the aCC compiler?

I'd recommend looking for the aCC documentation's counterpart to the GCC's language standards. Then you can see if you're working with the same version of C. (I'm looking for the aCC, but not finding much on HP's website).

::btw:: If that isn't the right version of GCC it was created on, you should be able to find the documentation for the right one here.

After that, I'd start looking at the libraries and includes that you put in the program.

@OP: just a lazy tip: keep track of your tools versions. Whenever a new version
sees the light skip the x.0 version and wait for the x.01 or whatever version and
try to upgrade you own software. Jumping from version 3.y to 6.y is almost
undoable and causes a lot of work in one big piece instead of being spread over
all those different versions and being doable and understandable (as you now
experience). Good luck.

kind regards,

Jos

Here are the versions of both compilers:
Version in the old box:
/opt/aCC/bin/aCC:
$Revision: 92453-07 linker linker crt0.o B.11.37 040218 $
HP aC++ B3910B A.03.65
HP aC++ B3910B A.03.52 Language Support Library

Version in the new box:
/opt/aCC/bin/aCC:
HP aC++/C for Integrity Servers B3910B A.06.10 [Mar 22 2006]

I believe I had wrongly quoted it as GCC V6...sorry for the mistake...

Is this migration possible?And thanks Jos for the suggestion :-)

Who can tell? You mention a lot of compilation errors; can you show the first (few)
of them and a bit, just a bit of relevant code where the error(s) occur?

kind regards,

Jos
